13 Genuine Ways to Make Someone Smile during Covid-19

So, we’ve all been quarantined thanks to Covid-19. It’s been anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on where you live. Some people are still working and some of us are home with not a lot to do. Amidst everything happening with Covid-19, there is one thing that doesn’t change and that’s the importance of kindness and the ability to find a smile through all this. This article is dedicated to making those we love in our life happy. Make someone smile by using these simple suggestions.
It’s more important than ever to keep our spirits up during this time in our life can be mentally draining and stressful. One of the best ways to lift our own spirits and feel good is by giving some TLC to someone else. My favorite motto when it comes to this topic is “When in doubt, think out”. So here are 13 of our favorite genuine ways to make someone smile during covid-19.

1. Make a nursing home friend

As of right now, there are many nursing homes around the world where our elderly population is completely isolated. They can’t have visitors and they most certainly have a lot of downtime. Call your local nursing home and ask if it would be possible to have a weekly chat via phone with one or two of the elderly that reside there who may be dealing with loneliness. You will certainly be able to make someone smile with this idea.
Different states have different laws so if they do not permit that in your state or country due to privacy, we recommend making a post on social media. Ask your network if they know anyone in a senior citizen home who may benefit from a friend. If you are connected through someone, you will be able to easily access the setup of your new weekly friend chat to help to brighten a senior citizens day. They will be in their glory telling you about the good ol’ days. There’s no better way to make a senior citizen smile during covid-19.

2. Write out handwritten cards for everyone you love

Mail these cards to family, friends, co-workers and even neighbors. Share with them a favorite memory you have about them, share with them something you love about them and let them know how grateful you are for them. This is not something people are used to receiving. The time and effort involved will show them how much you care and will make someone smile.

3. Support a friend`s local business

Make a GoFundMe account for them and promote it on your social media. If they have hit really hard times, creating an account is free and the cash flow could be very helpful for them. If they are not okay with a GoFundMe account, you can always just make a few posts about their business to promote them. They will always be grateful for free marketing.

4. Make a big and delicious meal for everyone in your house

Surprise your family or roommates with a yummy and unexpected surprise meal. It’s a great way to connect with each other and have some quality time. It’s the little things that count.

5. Make a song playlist for someone special

Make a special playlist for someone special and cater it to that person. If it’s romantic, choose all love songs. If someone just went through a breakup, make them an empowered, independent/freedom playlist. If it’s a friend, cater it to friendship songs, etc. This person will love knowing you took the time to make something special for them.

6. Clean the whole house or do some chores without being asked

This is great to do for your household especially if this is not normally your responsibility. The feeling of a freshly cleaned home can be so relaxing so roll up your sleeves and get scrubbing. Your roommates and the family you live with be super grateful.

7. Order some puzzles, games and craft kits to do with your family and roommates

Create some fun and quality time in the house together by playing and creating together. This is one of the best ways to create some quality time together, have some fun and create some laughter.

8. Plan an at-home movie night

Prepare by getting lots of candy, ice cream, chips and whatever other snacks you can think of (they can be healthy too). Deck out the living room with lots of candles, pillows and/or blankets. Have a starting time to get everyone prepared and ready for the big night in together.

9. Call everyone you know and either text them or call them to tell them you love them

Sometimes hearing you matter from a loved one means the world. Pick up the phone and call everyone and remind them they are important to you. This little act can go a long way.

10. Send flowers to someone special

Flowers always can brighten up a day and a home. Let someone special know you are thinking about them.

11. Make friendship bracelets for your friends!

They will love it and it will be a fun way for you to get creative and kill some time. You can mail them out and they will love their little surprise in the mail. Or, you could do an envelope drive-by drop-off from 6 feet away. Need tips on how to make them? Click here!

12. Make a fun scavenger hunt for someone in your house

Provide clues, notes, riddles, puzzles and more. It will provide lots of fun and entertainment.

13. Go online and leave reviews for all the businesses you’ve ever had a good experience with

Many businesses thrive when they have great reviews. With so many businesses completely shut down right now, they are going to need all the help they can get when their doors open back up. Your positive review will go a very long way for these businesses in need.

In Conclusion:

A little bit can go a long way. Keeping kindness in your heart helps not only everyone around you, but you as well. Stay grounded, help to cultivate strong inner peace and keep giving love to everyone around you because the payoffs of such small deeds are powerful.
